US Healthcare firm agrees to pay millions to settle class-action lawsuits filed due to a data breach.
Alabama Cardiology Group, according to the portal of the Settlement Administrator’s Portal, will pay $2.225 Million to settle a lawsuit that accused it of negligence when handling patient data.
Individuals who can prove they have suffered direct losses due to the breach of data could be eligible for up to $5,000.
A flat-rate cash payment will also be made on a proportional basis. In addition, the victims will be eligible for free credit monitoring service over a two-year period.
A data breach that affected more than 288,000 people occurred in 2024, after an unauthorised user gained access to highly sensitive medical, financial and personal information.
Included in this information are full names, Social Security numbers, and confidential medical data such as lab test results, treatment, prescriptions, dates, as well as information about credit cards, debit cards, bank accounts, etc.
The deadline for submitting claims is March 6, 2026. The final hearing for approval will take place on the 20th March of 2026.
A court has not ruled in favor of Alabama Cardiology Group, or of the victims of the data breach.
