US Healthcare firm agrees to pay millions to settle class-action lawsuit filed in response to a data breach which occurred on February 20, 2024.
The settlement administrator portal states that Consulting Radiologists has agreed to pay $2.2M to settle a lawsuit in which the plaintiffs accused the firm of not protecting and safeguarding the personal identifiable information as well as protected health information.
A data breach has exposed sensitive information of around 512,000 individuals.
The hacking of the database exposed the names of individuals, their addresses, dates and places of birth, Social Security Numbers, health insurance information, and medical records.
Members of the settlement class who can prove their out-of pocket losses due to the breach may be eligible for up to $5,000.
Individuals whose Social Security number was exposed will be able to receive a cash payment up to $125. Cash payments of up to $100 are available to those whose Social Security number was not revealed.
The victims of this data breach are also eligible to receive free credit monitoring worth less than $480 per year.
The deadline for submitting reimbursement claims is March 2. The final hearing for approval will take place on February 25th.
The Minnesota company, despite agreeing to a settlement with the plaintiffs in the class-action lawsuit, denies any liability and admits no wrongdoing.
