Cyberattacks that exposed patient data and targeted an American healthcare company will result in a payout of thousands of dollars to the victims.
NextGen Healthcare, according to an approved settlement website by the court, is paying up to $7500 to each victim for the cyberattack that occurred between March 2023 and April 2023. The company allegedly failed to perform its duty to protect the information of victims.
The Settlement Fund is intended to be used for reimbursement of verifiable, unreimbursed expenses or costs that Settlement Class Members have incurred, and believe are reasonably traceable to the Data Breach.
The victims allege NextGen Healthcare violated state laws and consumer protection statutes by failing to protect their personal data in compliance with its obligations, having inadequate security and violating certain state consumer laws. NextGen Healthcare reported on April 28th, 2023 that they had discovered a criminal cyberattack by a third party in which an attacker gained unauthorized access patient data .”
The complaint states that victims continue to suffer the effects of the breach of their personal data such as social security numbers.
