The integration between Lighter EVM and the existing Lighter platform increases competition for Hyperliquid.
Lighter announced plans to launch the Lighter EVM within the next few weeks. The Lighter platform partnered up with Axiom in order to deliver the Ethereum Virtual Machine compatible rollup using OpenVM Zero Knowledge zKVM.
Lighter Unveils EVM Compatibility Rollup with Axiom
The Lighter team has announced that Lighter EVM will be officially launched in collaboration with Axiom within the next few weeks. The EVM-equivalent Layer Two will allow the development of general purpose Web3 applications compatible to the Lighter platform.
Lighter is also the latest Ethereum (ETH) based perpetual DEX that seeks to gain a competitive advantage using Zero Knowledge (ZK). The Lighter EVM is a great way for Lighter DEX’s asset transfers to be faster and cheaper.
The Lighter EVM was specifically designed to leverage Ethereum as a layer 2 network. The Lighter EVM, which will be used by Axiom’s OpenVM zkVM for verification and proofs, is the most important. Lighter will gradually move from a simple Perpetual DEX to a complex web3 eco-system.
“Lighter EVM” will enable an ecosystem that combines Lighter with EVM applications, which can tap into Ethereum DeFi’s strength. The Lighter team has stated that they envision fast deposit bridges and collateral sharing between lending and perps using Lighter EVM, as well as stablecoins issued natively on Lighter.
What’s The Bigger Picture?
The launch of the lighter EVM is crucial to the democratization of the Lighter protocol. This Ethereum L2 perpetual DEX is also leveraging the ZK development in order to verify matching orders and guarantee low latency.
Lighter EVM is therefore in a position where it can compete with the top-tier DEXes on the market. These include Aster (ASTR), and Hyperliquid (HYPE). In recent years, the demand for perpetual crypto trading has increased as liquidity in the web3 market has surged.
The core developers of Lighter EVM plan to reduce the write latency in order to ensure future growth prospects. The Lighter community also highlighted the importance of the synchronous execution on LighterEVM to achieve low latency.
The LIT token, as a yield-bearing coin, will have a greater utility. The Lighter EVM will also connect Lighter DEX to EVM-compatible apps such as AAVE for Lending and stablecoin issuers.
