In Florida, a man pleads guilty to fraudulence Medicare of up to tens millions in the ‘Doctor Chase” scheme.
Sean Alterman, 38, has confessed to the U.S. Department of Justice that he ran a fraudulent healthcare scheme that included false claims to Medicare.
Alterman owned two health care labs. Authorities claim that Alterman used these companies to buy orders from recruiters of patients who were using deceptive methods to convince them to undergo expensive genetic tests.
Alterman used a technique known as “doctor-chasing” to help him. This involves sending misleading requests in order to get doctors into signing the test.
Alterman received $36,000,000 in Medicare medical claims through his shell companies. He claimed $5.5,000,000 as his.
The authorities claim that some of his funds were used to buy luxury goods, including a Rolls-Royce and a huge home. Both of these items have now been forfeited.
Alterman is due to be sentenced April 16th. He pleaded guilty in conspiracy to commit fraud against healthcare and conspiracy to pay and offer kickbacks. The maximum sentence is 15 years in prison.
