A Colorado-based medical firm has reached a preliminary agreement to pay up to $15 million to settle a class-action lawsuit stemming from a ransomware attack that compromised patient data.

The proposed deal in Jenkins v. DaVita covers about 2.3 million people and has preliminary court approval in Colorado.

DaVita operates dialysis clinics. The non-reversionary fund is capped at $15 million, with about $10 million expected to reach class members after fees and costs.

Claimants with documented losses can seek up to $2,500. Those without documentation may receive an estimated $50 pro rata payment.

All class members qualify for three years of one-bureau credit monitoring.

DaVita denies wrongdoing, and the claims process has not yet opened.
