Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA), the stock of the company, is down 0.5% on Friday due to increased volatility among stocks as a result of the uncertainty surrounding the US-Iran dispute.

Investors weighed the developments that might keep buy-the dip case viable.

Tesla’s stock has fluctuated from previous sessions, as investors try to balance rising competition and the new comments from bulls that indicate the company will be more than an electric vehicle maker.

Tesla stock: China sales rebound

China was the immediate source of this catalyst.

According to the latest figures from China Passenger Car Association, Tesla’s Shanghai plant delivered 127 728 cars in January and Feb.

After adjusting for Lunar New Year, the figure increased by more than 35 percent from the 93 926 recorded in the same time period one year ago.

It is important to note that the stronger numbers of deliveries from China are more significant than any other country, as the Asian economy represents one of Tesla’s largest markets.

China’s figures have helped Tesla avoid a 4-week-long losing streak.

Tesla’s China-made EVs sales were up for a 4th consecutive month in February, and 91% higher than a year ago.

Macrohard enhances AI story

Second, investors will eventually be able to value Tesla more than cars that leave the factory.

Elon Musk announced “Macrohard” on Wednesday. It is a joint Tesla and xAI project that aims to mimic the software company functions.

This announcement reinforces that Tesla is an AI platform and automation system tied to robotaxis and software heavy businesses such as Optimus and full-self-driving.

Retail traders should be aware of this distinction, as Wall Street values software and AI companies higher than manufacturers because they believe that these businesses can generate greater margins and scale more quickly.

SpaceX adds an optionality to its stake

Although the third catalyst has a more financial focus, it can still be important in terms of sentiment.

Tesla has received approval from the regulatory authorities to convert its investment of $2 billion in xAI to a stake SpaceX. According to documents dated 11 March, Tesla is listed as the purchaser.

This would be less than 1%.

This is only a tiny ownership stake on paper. The strategic value could be greater than what the ownership percentage indicates.

This transaction provides Tesla shareholders with indirect exposure to SpaceX in advance of a possible public listing this year. It also reinforces the argument that TSLA should be valued based on Musk’s broader ecosystem.

However, none of these developments will eliminate the risk.

Tesla deliveries have been declining annually over the last two years. Some investors are concerned that a third consecutive year of decline could be possible, as Musk spends heavily on humanoid and robotaxis.

MarketWatch’s page of analyst estimates for TSLA reflects a generally neutral outlook, with an “Hold”, average rating and a $426.61 price target. There are 55 ratings.
