Wells Fargo, the banking giant is refusing to compensate a customer with a disability who has lost thousands of pounds to fraudsters who impersonated employees.
The local FOX 26 news reported that Paul Schendel (52), a man with diabetes who had a disability due to back injuries, lost $6.805 in a scam perpetrated by con artists posing to be Wells Fargo staff.
Schendel got a call from Wells Fargo one day. He was informed by the caller who knew his bank details that there had been fraudulent activities on his Wells Fargo Account.
A woman knocked on his door later that same day. She cut his card in half and removed the chips, as well. She even said that Schendel should visit the bank to obtain a brand new card the following day.
When Schendel visited Wells Fargo he learned that they would never call their customers or conduct any such activity. The funds in his bank account were also unlikely to be recovered.
Schendel received a letter from Wells Fargo, confirming the bank’s refusal to reimburse him for his losses.
Wells Fargo says.
We have finished our investigation of the $6,805 charges on your account…Based on the available information, we determined that the transaction was either made by yourself or someone with your consent. Consider your claim closed .”
FOX26 has said that it contacted Wells Fargo in order to find out more about Schendel, but the bank giant is yet to respond.
