Hackers targeting Revolut have lowered their ransom demand to about $3 million and imposed a 24-hour deadline. The group threatens to sell data from 680 customers if Revolut does not pay.

Researchers tracking the attackers say they now request roughly 6,000 Monero tokens. Consequently, the payment shift could complicate efforts to trace any transaction linked to the extortion attempt.

Hackers Change Their Demands

The new demand represents a major change from the 10,000 Bitcoin figure circulated earlier. Another group previously claimed responsibility for that larger demand. However, the IAmNotAVillain group disputes that claim and says an impersonator misrepresented the breach.

The attackers reportedly obtained sensitive information through fraudulent requests from a legitimate government email domain. The exposed records reportedly include identity documents, verification images, bank details, and Bitcoin transaction information.

Regulators Examine the Breach

Revolut says its core systems and customer funds remain unaffected. Additionally, the company notified authorities after discovering the impersonation scheme. The UK Information Commissioner’s Office is assessing the incident.

Moreover, investigators face uncertainty around several claims from the attackers. The reported ransom and customer distribution remain unconfirmed by Revolut. Hence, the 24-hour deadline currently represents the hackers’ demand rather than a verified payment negotiation.
