Scammers pretending to be Wells Fargo fraud agents allegedly stole thousands of dollars out of a Texas couple’s bank account.
Fox26 Houston reports that Joan Leon of Kingwood in Texas received a phone call which looked as if it came from the local Wells Fargo office. This made her believe this caller.
Leon claims she followed the instructions, only to learn later that the scammer used her card at a nearby Kroger store in order to drain $8,000. Leon claims she followed the instructions, but later learned that the scammer had used her card to steal $8000 from the account at the nearby Kroger.
Leon claims that at first, Wells Fargo did not reimburse her for the funds she had stolen and even accused Leon of complicity in the theft.
The bank reversed their decision later and refunded the money stolen.
Michael Leon says that the bank changed its mind only after Michael Leon told them, “If we do not get our refund, it will be our mission to recover our funds.”
The police department in Houston was notified and a media report filed.
Wells Fargo has not yet responded to media inquiries about this matter.
