Tinder, the popular dating app, is giving away tens and millions of dollars in settlements to class-action lawsuits alleging that it overcharged users aged 50+.
Tinder recently settled with a class-action lawsuit alleging that it had charged older users more for the gold subscription than younger users between March 2015 to March 2016.
Allan Candelore brought the lawsuit on behalf of him and other Californian consumers that were charged higher prices for Tinder subscriptions due to their age. According to the lawsuit, Tinder charges higher prices for older users in violation of California’s Unruh Act.
The Court denied Tinder’s request on January 17, 2025 to have class members arbitrate their disputes rather than having the Court resolve them. Tinder filed an appeal against that Court’s order.
The parties discussed the settlement of the case while Tinder was appealing. The parties reached a $60.5 million settlement at a September 10th 2025 mediation. This amount is subject to court approval .”
Settlement funds will be given to people who bought Tinder Plus, Tinder Gold or Tinder Gold on March 2, 2015 or later in California if they are 29 or older. Tinder has settled but denies any wrongdoing.
