Krispy Creme warns tens and thousands of Americans they may be at risk for identity theft or fraud after a recent cybersecurity incident.
The doughnut giant and coffeehouse chain has filed a complaint with the Office of the Maine attorney general claiming that it discovered an intrusion into its computer system, which affected 161,676 of its employees, ex-employees and their family members.
The firm said in a press release that an unidentified actor had gained access to its information systems and stolen multiple types of data.
Krispy Creme claims that the attacker could have stolen sensitive information such as names, Social Security Numbers, dates of birth, and state or driver’s licence numbers. This thief could have copied other financial information, such as credit card numbers, debit cards, security codes and usernames/passwords for financial accounts.
The other data that may have been taken include: digital signatures; usernames and passwords; email addresses and passwords; biometric records.
Krispy Kreme was made aware on November 29th 2024 of unauthorized activity in a part of their information technology system. We immediately took steps, with leading cybersecurity experts, to contain and remedy the incident after learning about the unauthorised activity.
Our investigation of the incident revealed that some personal data was compromised on May 22, 2025. We have no proof that this information was misused and are unaware of any reported cases of fraud or identity theft as a result of the incident .”
Krispy Kreme has announced that it sent out letters to all affected customers informing them of the cyber incident and offering credit monitoring services for free.
It says that it will revamp its security protocol “to protect even more the privacy of data we have been entrusted with.”
