A fraudster who pretended to be from JPMorgan Chase fooled an elderly woman into believing that her account had problems.
Cleveland.com reports that the 78-year old victim received a phone call from someone claiming to represent the fraud department of the bank giant.
Caller warns victim that someone is trying to take $9,000 out of her Chase Savings account.
The scammer instructed her to hand over $12,000 cash to an FBI agent for safekeeping to stop the fraud.
She says that she went to the local Chase branch to follow the instructions of the scammer to hold her phone in her pocket and stay on the line.
She was instructed to go to Dunkin’ Donuts, where she saw a black SUV pull up. She claims she was approached by someone posing as Agent Kyle, who displayed a badge to prove their identity.
Kyle then left after he had received the money. After the scammer informed her the issue was setting up a digital wallet, she became suspicious.
The police have confirmed that the victim filed a report of fraud and are now investigating the matter.
