Elon Musk, the head of the Department of Government Efficiency, took center stage during Donald Trump’s second cabinet meeting, outlining his aggressive plans for cutting federal spending.

The billionaire CEO of Tesla and SpaceX presented DOGE as an urgent effort in order to prevent an impending fiscal crash, citing unsustainable deficits of $2 trillion and rising interest payments which now exceed US Defence Department expenditures.

Musk’s role within Trump’s administration is being scrutinized by both congressional Republicans and the media, as his budget-cutting measures disrupt federal agencies.

Wearing a black “Make America Great Again” hat and a T shirt that read “Tech Support”, he claimed outdated government computer systems are a major cause of inefficiency.

NOW: Elon Musk is asked by President Trump to speak at the first Cabinet meeting about DOGE. He quickly displays his “tech support shirt” “I call myself humble “tech support”, here… that’s a pretty literal description of what DOGE does. Fix the computer systems ,…

He said that his team was acting as “technical support” for the federal Government, repairing legacy systems which fail to communicate correctly and result in wasted money.

Musk’s drastic cuts are supported by Trump

Musk’s cost cutting agenda involves slashing the government expenditures through eliminating inefficiencies, fraud and waste across departments.

His ambitious goal: find $1 trillion in savings (roughly 15% of the $7 trillion federal Budget).

He defended his aggressive style, warning that “America will go bust” without major reforms.

Musk claims that the DOGE initiative, which has already begun to freeze and reallocate funds, will ensure that essential services remain in place while eliminating redundant expenditures.

One of his controversial first moves was to temporarily stop USAID’s Ebola Prevention funding before reversing it, a decision he justified as a part of a larger “learning process.”

Musk has been embraced by Trump despite the backlash. He described Musk as someone who “sacrifices a lot” to help the country.

Musk’s efforts in exposing and correcting “horrible” things in government spending were praised by Trump, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to reduce federal bureaucracy.

Federal layoffs and employee resistance

Musk’s proposal to require federal employees to justify work every week under penalty of termination is one of his most controversial proposals.

The initiative has caused outrage. Critics claim that it threatens national security and job security.

Musk defended his proposal, calling it “a simple pulse check” to ensure that government workers “have two neurons and a heartbeat.” He also insisted that the minimum expectation for government workers should be to be able to send an email.

His comments have increased concerns among employees in the public sector, many of whom fear massive job cuts. Trump’s administration has ordered workforce reductions. This leaves agencies uncertain about the future.

Washington is thrown into chaos by Musk’s overhaul

Musk’s drive for efficiency is already causing significant disruptions in federal agencies.

As departments prepare for workforce reductions and uncertainty surrounds job security, tensions have increased between the administration of government employees.

Critics claim that his aggressive approach could lead to critical operational gaps in national security and social service, in particular.

Musk’s push for modernizing government technology, in addition to budget cuts, has raised concerns about cyber security risks.

Critics warn that rapid digital changes without oversight could expose government system to new vulnerabilities.

Musk’s role as part of the Trump administration is still a controversial issue, especially with federal workers on edge and mounting opposition.

It remains to be seen if his drastic measures will lead to the promised savings, or if they will lead to increased instability.
