Multiple reports citing White House sources on Tuesday stated that Amy Gleason was named the director of Donald Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency.
It was confirmed shortly after White House press secretary Karoline Laavitt had assured the public that Elon Mots wasn’t in charge.
Leavitt, however, refused to identify the DOGE administrator at a recent press conference, causing speculation as to Musk’s true role.

Elon Musk is a part-time government civil servant, according to the White House. This designation allows for those with special expertise to work in a limited capacity.
Musk is also a senior adviser to the President.
Musk hosted a DOGE Update on X, the social media platform he runs with members of Congress.
Later, President Donald Trump told reporters that the DOGE hired certain types of employees.
Leavitt said that Musk will attend Trump’s cabinet meeting Wednesday.
Musk’s DOGE involvement is at the heart of numerous lawsuits that challenge the unit’s mass-layoffs, cancellations of contracts, and efforts to close down federal agencies.
According to a lawsuit filed by Trump’s aide Joshua Fisher who runs the Office of Administration and is also a Trump advisor, Musk has been a top adviser to Trump, but “no formal or actual authority” to make decisions for Trump.
Fisher asserted Musk was not an employee at the DOGE entities created by Trump via executive order.
A Trump administration attorney reportedly had difficulty answering a federal judge’s question about Musk’s role in DOGE during a court hearing held on Monday. This added to the uncertainty regarding his involvement.
What is Amy Gleason all about?
Gleason’s LinkedIn profile states that she has worked as a senior advisor at US Digital Service since January.
USDS was originally created under the Obama Administration to modernize government technology infrastructure.
After Trump returned to office in the last month, USDS became the US DOGE Service.
Gleason was a digital service expert for the USDS between October 2018 and December 2021. He worked under the Biden Administration as well as the first Trump Administration.
Gleason served as vice president of research for the Cure JM Foundation for five years, an organization that focuses on Juvenile Myositis support and research.
