Donald Trump, the US president announced Friday that two nuclear subs would be deployed to areas near Russia in response to Dmitry Medvedev’s “highly provocative” statements. Medvedev is a former Russian President and currently the Deputy Chairperson of Russia’s Security Council.
Trump stressed the importance of this move in his Truth Social social media platform. He stated that words have great power and can cause unintended effects. Trump expressed the hope that the deployment wouldn’t escalate into a conflict.
Donald Trump:
In response to the provocative remarks of the former President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev who is currently the Vice Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation I ordered the positioning of two nuclear submarines in the relevant regions just in case the foolish and incendiary statements were more than that.
Words can have unintended effects. Hope this is not one of them. “Thank you for paying attention to this issue!” added the US president.
What was the trigger for America’s action?
Medvedev made the triggering comments, implying that Russia is ready to supply and maintain nuclear capability to other nations, as well as suggesting nuclear warheads could be supplied to Iran.
Medvedev made statements that emphasized the ongoing enrichment and future production of nucleic weapons. Trump saw these as provocative remarks.
Medvedev warned Trump about the dangers of ultimatums. He said that such threats could lead to conflict not just between Russia and Ukraine, but even within the US.
Trump’s move to bring US nuclear subs nearer to Russia has raised eyebrows and is a sign of escalating military tension.
Submarines of the Ohio class are massive, almost silent and capable to launch nuclear missiles with no warning.
Trump has praised them before, highlighting their technology and saying that they are unrivaled when it comes stealth or firepower.
What can possibly go wrong?
It’s not just the Russians who are concerned about this decision by the US to bring nuclear submarines nearer to Russian waters.
This is a dangerous move that puts two nuclear-armed countries in an uncomfortable position, both geographically and in terms of posture.
This is not subtle. They’re not just any subs. These are likely Ohio-class missile submarines. The kind that can deliver devastating nuclear responses while remaining almost invisible below the surface.
By placing them close to Russian territory, the risk of a misinterpretation or even worse, an error that could be fatal is increased.
The tensions are rising as the former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev continues his aggressive threats against the West.
Washington’s response to his recent claim that Russia could supply nuclear weapons for countries such as Iran has been equally provocative.
This could easily spiral out of control. Russia can choose to increase its nuclear exercises, ratchet up the saber rattling or move strategic forces in new directions.
