Stellantis, a global automaker that reported an EUR5.5 billion profit for 2024 has now announced a EUR22.3 million net loss in 2025.
According to the company’s financial report published Friday, EUR25,4 billion of exceptional charges from a strategic reset of their operations and product roadmap were the primary cause of loss.
The company overestimated the speed of global transition to electric vehicles and faced changing market and regulatory requirements. It said that the results show a “re-initialisation of their business model” after they had underestimated the pace.
What are the numbers?
Stellantis’ net revenue in 2025 was EUR 153.5 billion. This is a decrease of 2% from the year before.
This reduction can be attributed primarily to the lower prices in the first six months of the year, and the adverse effects of foreign exchange rates.
Although the total number of vehicles shipped increased only by 1% in the past year, certain items have caused a sharp decline in profitability.
This is what the company said:
The net loss was EUR22.3 billion. Operating loss of EUR 26.3 billion.
The adjusted operating income (AOI), which is negative EUR842 millions, was a result of the revaluation.
A margin adjusted for operating profits of -0.5%.
The negative industrial cash flow is EUR 4.5 billion.
Due to additional provisions for the first half, the EUR25.4 billion of exceptional charges is higher than the EUR22.2 previously reported in February.
What is the “strategic re-set”?
Most of Stellantis’ exceptional charges relate to an extensive review of its electrification plans.
It said that it misjudged how fast consumers would take to electric cars.
The company decided to review its product plan to align it with the actual market demand, and to reflect regulatory changes in particular for the United States.
The reset is a combination of:
Modifications to specific initiatives and their termination
* Modifications in contract and warranty clauses
Financial impact of workforce reductions announced in Europe
Reorganisations of a broader nature will affect the second half year
Stellantis said that they will focus on a balance of vehicles that include electric, hybrid and internal combustion engines, instead of concentrating primarily solely on electrification.
The “freedom to choose” of customers is restored by this shift.
Second half improvements
In the second half 2025, there was an improvement in operating performance.
In the last quarter, vehicle deliveries reached 2.8 millions units. This represents an increase of 11% from year to year.
The net revenues increased by 10% to EUR79.2 Billion, compared to the same period of 2024.
The increase in shipments to North America is due to improved performance commercially and stable stock levels.
Stellantis reported that it had also made progress with quality improvement and successful launches of new products in the second half.
Stellantis, despite its net loss in 2025, ended with EUR46billion of industrial liquidity, providing it financial flexibility to implement the strategic transformation.
In order to preserve the balance sheet and to support the turnaround the board has decided to suspend dividends for 2026. It also authorized the issue of hybrid bonds up to EUR5billion.
The measures taken are designed to ensure operational stability, and also strengthen the capital structure.
The post Stellantis reports EUR22.3B loss in 2025 following strategic overhaul could be updated as new information becomes available.
