US adds $132.987,000,000 to national debt in one month as JPMorgan Chase’s CEO warns borrowing is unsustainable

US national debt is rising at an alarming rate.

The Treasury Department has released new data showing that the debt of the United States jumped to $38.513 trillion as of January 26th.

This represents an increase in the amount of money by over $132.987 trillion just within one month.

Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase in an interview conducted by David Rubenstein for the State of American Business 2026 conference, warned that the US debt growth rate is not sustainable.

“I refer to this as geopolitics, and I think it’s more of a deficit. It reminds me of tectonic plate. They’re difficult. They’re moving. The crash may happen. We do not know. We don’t. It’s not a problem for 2026. Our deficit this year is nearly $2 trillion. The total debt amount is $38 trillion.

This isn’t sustainable. It won’t work. It’s just that I don’t have a clue when it will be.

Dimon believes that the US needs to find ways to grow their economy. The debt problem could get out of control if it continues to grow.

Growth is the best example. If you model just about anything, the growth will compensate for that. Good policy is always free. K-12 has already cost us $800 billion. It’s free to not stop people from making stuff. This will create employment and productivity. We have plenty of time to make the right policy choices to help grow the economy. We must also make other decisions.
