Kazakhstan’s central bank will begin crypto-related investment in April-May 2026.
Kazakhstan’s governor of the central bank, Timur Suleimanov has announced that the government plans to invest up to 350 million dollars from its gold reserves and foreign exchange reserves into cryptocurrency assets.
Kazakhstan is Building an Investment List
Suleimanov told the press that the central bank was developing a list for investment, which included cryptocurrency. According to the governor of Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan will purchase shares in high-tech firms related to digital financial assets and cryptocurrencies, index funds, as well as other stocks with similar qualities to crypto assets.
Aliya Moldabekova announced that the Kazakhstan Central Bank, as the Deputy chair, will begin investing in this new asset category between April and May 2026. Moldabekova said that the bank would not purchase large amounts of crypto; instead, it would select companies dealing with digital assets, and likely buy their stocks, especially those involved in cryptocurrency infrastructure.
Crypto Investment Process: Part of a Continuous Crypto Investment Process
As of February 1, 2026 Kazakhstan’s gold reserves and foreign exchange reserves were $69.40 billion, while its national funds were $65.23 billion. The latest development shows Kazakhstan’s continued exploration of the crypto industry. It has engaged in several initiatives to expand its role in the sector.
In June of last year, the country created a national cryptocurrency fund, which was funded by seized funds and coins that were mined in state-backed operations. Kazakhstan hinted in November 2025 that it would launch a crypto-reserve fund worth between $500 million and one billion dollars. This is a separate project aimed at investing into exchange-traded fund (ETFs), and crypto-focused businesses.
Kazakhstan’s crypto-strategies avoid direct exposure to Bitcoins and cryptocurrency. It aims to profit from the activities and growth of companies directly involved in the crypto ecosystem, while limiting the risk exposure for the nation.
