A public dispute over Cardano’s governance structure drew renewed attention this week after Cyber Capital founder and chief investment officer Justin Bons called for the removal of Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson.

The dispute began after Hoskinson argued for using a moderated Discord environment to host governance discussions related to Cardano’s Voltaire era. The proposal was presented as a way to create a more structured setting for discussions involving delegated representatives (DReps) before on-chain voting takes place.

Hoskinson pointed to the community structure used by Midnight, a project associated with Input Output Global (IOHK), as an example of how moderated discussions can help reduce distractions and keep conversations focused on governance matters.

However, the proposal quickly drew criticism from Bons, who argued that moving discussions to a moderated platform could introduce risks of censorship and limit the visibility of dissenting viewpoints.

Bons Raises Concerns Over Centralization

In a post on X, Bons urged the Cardano community to remove Hoskinson from a leadership role, arguing that concentrating governance discussions within a Discord server could increase the influence of groups aligned with IOHK.

Bons also questioned Cardano’s technical progress, stating that the network had not met expectations regarding scalability. He estimated that Cardano’s current maximum throughput in 2026 is approximately 23 transactions per second, based on existing block parameters and block production intervals.

According to Bons, governance discussions should remain in open public spaces rather than within platforms that rely on moderation controls.

Community Reaction Remains Divided

The remarks led to strong reactions across the Cardano community. Many supporters rejected Bons’ criticism and accused him of creating fear, uncertainty, and doubt around the project.

At the same time, some participants shared concerns about relying on a single moderated platform for governance discussions. Suggestions emerged for alternative approaches, including the use of neutral moderation frameworks through Intersect, an organization involved in Cardano’s governance processes.
