Goldman Sachs’ executive said that global equity markets have undergone a dramatic shift from the heavy concentration of US mega-cap technology stocks.
Rich Privorotsky is the head of European One Delta Trading at Goldman Sachs Global Banking & Markets. He says that investors have been moving away from so-called Magnificent 7 after many years of dominance.
According to him, the new shift opens up opportunities in emerging markets and cyclical industries.
So, it has been an enormous broadening of trades so far. It’s important to call attention to the poor performance of large cap software and tech. Software has seen a massive devaluation, which I believe is a result of recent innovations in AI.
Privorotsky claims that the pressures on technology giants have been caused by heavy capital spending, decreased share buybacks and power and semiconductor restrictions, as well as increased political scrutiny.
We started with extreme concentration. When the future returns are no longer as attractive and valuations seem inflated, transferring a few dollars from these companies to everything else can have a huge impact .”
According to him, the US equity benchmarks show a shift in performance, as equal-weighted indices outperform, and small-cap stocks do better than quality stocks and long-term growth. Cyclical stocks also gain more at the expense of secular growth and high-quality stocks.
Privorotsky pointed out that investors are also looking beyond US assets to invest in emerging markets.
