New York pastor and businessman admits to tax fraud scheme costing US Government millions.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Paul Mitchell has admitted to having stolen $3.22million from the firms he worked for to finance a lavish lifestyle.
Documents from the court show that Mitchell used company credit cards between 2015 and 2020 to pay for personal items and luxury goods, including clothing and jewelry, and to purchase watches.
The checks were also used to pay for his credit cards and tax obligations.
Authorities claim that Mitchell’s scheme involved transferring funds from company accounts to his own.
He did not declare any of his stolen money as income. This means he avoided paying taxes.
Mitchell cost the government of the United States about $2.9million in revenue loss. The state of New York lost $316,000.
Mitchell could face up to 5 years in prison and an up to $250,000 fine. The date of his sentencing is yet to be set.
