According to reports, police officers in Scottsdale Arizona arrested a fake Uber Driver who stole cryptocurrency from his passengers.

According to NBC News the Scottsdale Police Department reported that Nuruhussein Wassein, was arrested on Wednesday. He has been charged with money laundering and fraudulent schemes, as well as theft.

Police say Hussein picked up Uber passengers in a city hotel between March and Decemeber this year by pretending to be a driver.

According to reports, the suspect claimed to need the victim’s phone to connect to Uber or look up directions. However, the intent was to steal cryptocurrency from the digital wallet.

NBC News quotes the police.

Hussein allegedly stole $300,000.00 from passengers. He is accused of saying to a victim, “Be calm or bad things will happen”.

Bail bond of $200,000 comes with conditions such as Hussein being under electronic surveillance and not allowing him to use the internet. He is required to remain in Maricopa County because prosecutors say he is frequently traveling to Ethiopia, and therefore a flight-risk.
