A Georgia driver says she has lost $2,400 after trying to buy a $2 bottle of water from a street seller in Atlanta.

Monet Swann says a young man selling water walked up to her car window on 10th Street near Techwood Drive in Midtown on October 1st, reports 11Alive.

Swann says she agreed to pay through Zelle by scanning a QR code and screen-sharing what she believed was a $2 payment.

Instead, she says $1,200 left her account. Swann says,

“So, I screenshared and authorized a two-dollar purchase from Zelle and unfortunately, he took $1,200 from me.”

She says the seller also somehow accessed her Apple Pay account and pulled an additional $1,200, bringing the total loss she allegedly incurred to $2,400.

Swann says she notified her bank about the transactions in an effort to get back the money but her fraud claim have been denied. According to 11Alive, Swann hopes that her experience can serve as a cautionary tale to others in Atlanta who encounter water boys.

“Water boys could scam you. If they even try to approach you, I would say just keep walking. You can’t even be good to people in this world anymore even if you do have a good heart because I always tell myself, as long as you’re good to others, the blessings will come your way.”

No arrests have been reported.
