OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman dismissed Elon Musk’s offer to purchase the nonprofit organization that controls OpenAI. He called it “ridiculous” and reiterated that the company was not up for sale.
Altman, who spoke to Reuters at the AI summit in Paris on the fringes of its occurrence, responded directly when asked by Reuters about Musk’s reported bid for $97.4 Billion.
I have nothing more to add. “It’s absurd,” he replied. Further, he claimed Musk’s action was yet another effort to undermine OpenAI.
The company isn’t for sale. “It’s just another of his tricks to get us into trouble.”
Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015 with Altman as a non-profit. He later left the company, before it rose to fame.
He launched his AI company, xAI, in 2023. This latest bid by the billionaire is part of a larger effort to combat OpenAI’s move towards a profit-driven structure.
Altman, during his address at the AI Summit, was asked again if OpenAI is for sale. He simply replied, “No. We are not for sales.”
Musk, CEO of Tesla, and owner of the social media platform X has frequently criticized OpenAI’s leadership and direction.
Altman and his latest bid are still at odds, as the AI competition heats up.
