OpenAI has just launched a new AI product specifically for the US Government.
The new service, which it calls “ChatGPT Government”, will allow government agencies to share non-public and sensitive information with artificial intelligence while maintaining privacy and security.
OpenAI reports that since 2024, more than 90,000 employees in local, state and federal government have generated well over 18 millions prompts using ChatGPT.
What we know about ChatGPT Gov
ChatGPT Gov has a similar user interface to the AI enterprise version.
According to Felipe Millon, the company’s director of federal sales, the cloud will allow government agencies to better “manage privacy, security, and compliance requirements.”
Artificial intelligence has been scrutinized due to concerns about data privacy and other possible harmful effects.
OpenAI’s representative stated that the company focused on special considerations for government use of artificial Intelligence in developing ChatGPT Government.
The announcement comes just days after President Donald Trump unveiled a $500 billion AI project backed by OpenAI, Oracle and other companies.
Shares of the San Francisco-based artificial intelligence company have not yet been made available to the public for trading.
What DeepSeek AI means for OpenAI
OpenAI was in the spotlight this week, after a Chinese competitor DeepSeek launched an AI model that it claimed to be more powerful than ChatGPT while costing only a fraction of what ChatGPT did.
DeepSeek has been praised by the US firm for its impressive model.
Kevin Weil, OpenAI’s Chief Product Officer, said that it “underscores the importance of the US winning this race”.
Weil told reporters today in a press briefing that OpenAI is fully committed to “moving very quickly” to “stay ahead” of the competition and maintain its competitive advantage.
Statista predicts that the artificial intelligence market will grow at a rate of over 27% annually until the end of the decade.
President Trump wants the US to lead AI revolution
OpenAI’s commitment is in line with President Trump’s vision, who called DeepSeek’s AI model a “wake up call” for American tech companies.
On Tuesday, he urged the domestic AI companies to focus on innovation in order to maintain their competitive edge.
The recent developments are a result of the new government’s commitment in making America a leader among emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency.
OpenAI’s valuation grew to $157 billion during its most recent funding round, nearly double the $80 that it had attained in its previous round in the same year.
