Anthropic is the focus of attention this morning, as it has closed an agreement to raise $3.5 Billion in new capital.
OpenAI’s rival was valued at $61.5 billion in the latest round of funding.
Anthropic’s latest milestone highlights the continued interest in artificial-intelligence startups, which many people believe will be shaping the future of technology.
Anthropic has raised a new round of funding from notable names such as Lightspeed Venture Partners. Cisco Investments. Salesforce Ventures. Fidelity.
Anthropic shares have not been made available to the public yet as it is a privately owned company.
What is the plan for Anthropic’s new capital?
Amazon’s artificial intelligence startup Anthropic has been growing rapidly. In the last month of 2024, its annual revenue run rate was about $1 billion.
Bloomberg today spoke to a source who said that Claude, its advanced AI model, has seen a 30% increase in popularity year-to date.
Anthropic will use the new capital to expand its computing capacity, research mechanistic interpretationability and alignment and speed up its international expansion.
According to a press release issued by the company on Monday, “the new funds will be used for the advancement of the next-generation AI system.”
Anthropic counts some notable clients as its customers
Anthropic’s enterprise clients are the main source of sales. These include Snowflake Inc., Novo Nordisk Ltd., Pfizer and Thomson Reuters.
The startup confirmed in its Monday press release that Amazon Alexa+ will now be powered by AI.
Anthropic is pleased with the deal because it will “bring Claude into millions of homes and Prime Members.”
Google, a peer company to Amazon is also heavily invested in Anthropic. The tech giant announced in January a $1 billion deal with Anthropic, which included an important cloud contract.
The Anthropic Group has not yet announced any plans to go public.
Why do AI startups attract such high valuations?
The generative artificial-intelligence market is expected to continue growing at an accelerated pace, and reach a value of $1 trillion in the next 10 years.
Microsoft and Amazon, for example, are investing heavily in AI startups, as well as working on their technologies, to increase their market share.
Amazon is still a minor investor even after it invested $8 billion. Microsoft has, however, invested $13 billion in OpenAI, a rival company, a much higher amount.
Anthropic is committed to improving technology. The recently released Claude 3.7 allows the user to “think” for as long as they want before answering.
The post Anthropic values at more than $61 billion during latest financing round could be updated as new information becomes available
