According to a Reuters/Ipsos survey, President Donald Trump’s approval rating is down as a result of a series of executive actions taken by him. These include restricting citizenship rights and renaming Gulf of Mexico.
This survey shows a growing disapproval for Trump’s policies, as well as a significant drop in support during the last week.
This poll was conducted for three days, and concluded on Sunday. It found that only 45% of Americans approved of Trump’s performances, down from the 47% of last week.
Disapproval is up to 46% from just 39%.
This survey is based on a sample size of approximately four percent.
Trump’s executive orders
The most controversial order was the end of birthright citizenship. This policy, which has been in place for many years, grants citizenship to all children who are born on American soil regardless of parents’ immigration status.
According to the poll, 59% of respondents oppose this move. This includes 89% Democrats and 36% Republicans.
The Trump administration is vowing to appeal the decision of a federal judge who temporarily blocked the changes.
Only 25% of people voted in favor of renaming the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America.
Trump’s shutdown of federal offices for diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), a measure that was opposed by 51% and supported by 44%, mainly along party lines, has also caused division.
Republicans backed Trump’s energy policy by 76%, but Democrats were 81% against it.
59% were also against the US pulling out of the Paris Climate Accords.
A strong bias was also evident in the poll regarding billionaire Elon Musk, who is a close Trump ally.
Musk was viewed negatively by 90% of Democrats, while 75% of Republicans rated him favorably.
The poll shows that as Trump rolls out his agenda of policy, public opinion is shifting, and there are growing disagreements about his governance style.
It remains to be determined whether these executive actions have an impact on long-term ratings of approval.
As new information becomes available, this post Trump’s approval rating falls following executive orders and poll results may change.
