Elon Musk CEO of Tesla Inc. showcased the much-anticipated Cybercab an autonomous robotaxi during an event held in Burbank California late Thursday.
Musk claims that the electric car, which Tesla calls a ‘robotaxi,’ is likely to be priced under $30,000. Production will begin in 2026.
Grand unveiling
Musk made a dramatic entry on the Warner Bros. stage, driving one of two-door Cybercab protoypes. Discovery Inc. movie studio lot.
Musk introduced the futuristic Robovan concept along with his Cybercab. It is designed to transport up to twenty people.

Musk is optimistic about the Cybercab’s future, despite Tesla having a long history of failing to meet ambitious deadlines.
Bloomberg reported in July that the event had been delayed two months because Musk made changes to the prototype.
Elon Musk’s Tesla timeline is optimistic
A member of the crowd asked during the presentation when Cybercabs would be for sale.
Musk’s response was a characteristic mix of caution and ambition.
He said, “I tend to be optimistic about time frames, but I think 2026 is a good estimate.”
Let me say it this way: Before the year 2027.
The presentation was a good look at the future of Tesla with its Cybercab but it did not provide details on the technology advancements required to reach full autonomous driving.

Musk has not provided specifics about how Tesla intends to progress this system until it reaches the point that driver supervision will no longer be necessary.
Tesla is aiming to provide this feature to Model 3 owners and Model Y users in Texas and California by next year.
Investors’ reactions to lack of technical detail
Nancy Tengler of Laffer Tengler Investments, a Tesla shareholder who was present at the event, commented about the lack of details in Musk’s speech.
Tengler, quoted by Bloomberg: “The only thing that was specific to the case is $30,000 towards a Cybercab.”
All the concepts looked great. The idea is super-cool. Absolutely.
Musk makes big promises about Tesla, but it’s late to start.
Musk explained on X (his social media platform) that the event started almost an hour late due to a medical issue involving a member of the audience.
The presentation was a hit with attendees despite its late start and the lack of details. Its bold vision of the future of transport captured their attention.
Tesla faces the daunting task of meeting their ambitious deadlines. Production of an autonomous Cybercab priced under $30,000 is scheduled to start in 2026.
Musk’s ability to deliver on his promise is yet to be determined, but the reveal has already generated considerable interest for the future of inexpensive autonomous vehicles.
