Wells Fargo faces a class-action lawsuit for allegedly failing to secure the personally identifiable information of its customers.
In the lawsuit filed by Tamra Bakon as lead plaintiff, Wells Fargo is accused of a ‘hack that could have been prevented. This has led to thousands of customer data being exposed.
Wells Fargo announced a security breach in the last few weeks. An insider of the bank had accessed customer information and then used it to commit fraud from May 2022 until March 2023.
Wells Fargo, in a letter to its customers, posted on the website of the Office of the Vermont Attorney General, says that the data stolen includes name, address, date of birth, telephone numbers, emails, Social Security numbers, drivers’ license numbers as well as bank account, debit/credit card, brokerage, and loan/line of credits numbers.
Bacon claims that the incident left her financially in turmoil.
In order to minimize and remedy the harms that resulted from the Data Breach and mitigate the damages caused, Plaintiff Tamra will be spending considerable amounts of time and money in the future.
Due to the Data Breach Plaintiff Tamra faces a current risk, and she will be exposed to an increased risk for fraud and identity theft in years to come.”
Wells Fargo did not comment publicly on the security breach. Bacon claimed that it was caused by laxity at America’s largest bank.
According to the complaint, there are more than 100 members of the class involved.
Bacon claims that class members have a right to “injunctive relief and other equitable remedies” because their data has been compromised, and used in fraud cases.
