According to reports, a US court has accused former FTX Executive Ryan Salame who is embroiled in controversy of giving false testimony when he pleaded guilty last year.

According to CNBC, District Judge Lewis A. Kaplan said in court that he could sanction Salame. However, he did not specify what the punishment would be.

Kaplan reportedly stated that Salame “induced him” to agree to the former FTX Executive’s guilty plea.

Salame admitted to lying in court Thursday about his guilty plea last year, when he claimed that prosecutors had not promised him anything as a reward for his plea.

Salame, former co-CEO at FTX Digital Markets (the Bahamian branch of the bankrupt crypto-exchange), pleaded guilty of conspiracy to defraud Federal Election Commission and conspiracy to commit unlawful political contributions, as well a conspiracy to run an unlicensed money transfer business.

Kaplan, in May, sentenced Salame, to serve 7.5 years of prison time. He is due to be reported to prison by October.

Salame, a former Congressional Candidate and mother of Salame’s child Michelle Bond, claimed in a court petition last month that he had cut a deal to plead guilty with the Government to stop further investigations into Michelle Bond.

Few days later, Damian Williams announced that Bond had been charged with campaign finance violations in relation to her failed run for Congress 2022.

Williams stated in an indictment, that Salame organized a fictitious $400,000 payment from FTX to Bond which Bond allegedly utilized to fund her election campaign.

Salame’s attorneys claimed that the government had used negotiations between the former CEO and Bond to intimidate Bond, and incite Salame into admitting guilt. Salame first asked for the dismissal of Bond’s charges, and if this didn’t occur, he requested that his conviction be thrown out.

In a reply, the prosecution called Salame’s accusations “demonstrably untrue”.

Salame’s attorneys later requested that Bond bring the matter up in Salame’s case.

Salame’s lawyers did not retract his earlier accusations.

To be clear, M. Salame is committed to the facts outlined in his Petition as well as the declaration that accompanies it. However, Mr. Salame withdraws the Petition to give Ms. Bond and the decision to be rendered in her case .”

CNBC reported that Kaplan told the court in Thursday’s hearing that he needed time to think about what to do.
