According to local media, US authorities have been trying to get access to Binance employees who are currently incarcerated in Nigeria.
Binance’s executive Tigran Gamaryan and a colleague Nadeem Anjarwalla were arrested in February this year. Nadeem managed to flee the country.
They had travelled to Nigeria for regulatory discussions.
Gambaryan is currently imprisoned by the Nigerian government. It was reported in August that Gambaryan’s physical condition had been rapidly deteriorating at the African prison.
Tigran’s mental and physical conditions have rapidly deteriorated, making his condition more serious than ever. A herniated disk has left him in extreme pain and unable walk. The Nigerian government denied him access to basic medical needs, such as a wheelchair .”, despite his severe condition.
Binance CEO Richard Teng responded to these reports by calling Gambaryan’s treatment in Nigerian government “inhuman”.
This inhumane treatment must stop. “He must be allowed to return home to receive medical care and be with his family .”
According to Punch in Nigeria, now the US Embassy is pushing to gain access to Binance’s executive, who happens to be a US Citizen.
Punch claims that the Binance employee is ill, and this has prompted the request for access.
An anonymous source with knowledge of the situation has confirmed this.
They are concerned about not having access to him (despite being a US Citizen). Binance also had a problem in the US .”
Gambaryan suffers from a herniated disk and is prone to malaria and pneumonia. Lawyers for Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission claim that Gambaryan was not in poor health and already had a herniated disk before he went to prison.
