The law enforcement officials are warning the public about a scam that is designed to steal the savings and life of older victims.
The Times-Tribune reports that Pennsylvania police have confirmed an 86-year-old man lost $9.500 by a person posing as his grandson.
Joseph Burke claims he was contacted by a man claiming to have been his descendant and requesting $19,000 for a car accident.
Joseph, in an attempt to meet the deadline of the alleged situation, took $9,500 out of one account. He wanted to take more money from another, but the employees at the bank stopped him.
Joseph claims he obeyed the instructions given by the thief and allowed a man wearing a blue surgical mask, baseball cap and gloves, to come collect his money at home.
The police identified the vehicle used by Joseph to steal the money. The police reported that the car had been leased by a company renting cars under Iris Alvarez’s name. Officers obtained a warrant for access to Alvarez Cash App and found that Alfonso Camareno was the suspected thief.
They are charged now with running a corrupt organisation, theft and related crimes.
Police warn their investigation indicates that the plan appears to be a part of an organised crime group in other places.
Police in Pittsburgh say Camareno was the brains behind a criminal gang that only targets seniors. Camareno faces similar charges in Pittsburgh.
Camareno Alvarez and still on the loose. The police say that the investigation continues and there is a possibility of further arrests.
