JPMorgan Chase customers say they have struggled with the aftermath of a malicious act that drained them $40,000 out of their business accounts.
ABC Chicago reports that Jeff Benach, a Chicago-based housing developer recently ordered renderings from a Canadian firm.
Benach claims that he paid for the work even though he was unhappy with the outcome, but never received a response.
Benach claims that a Canadian “ghost merchant”, with a false business name, began charging huge amounts on his Chase credit card.
His claim was denied immediately. The hiring of an attorney did not help.
Benach claims that the fraudsters doctored the emails, and made a fake paper-trail to give the impression that he had authorized the transaction.
Chase sent Benach an email saying that they had closed Benach’s case and said the transaction would remain valid. ‘”
Benach claims that he turned to the media in a desperate attempt.
After ABC News contacted Chase about the matter, it reversed their decision.
We had to go through the documents that we had used to validate the transaction and the vendor’s documentation.
“We regret the delay but are happy to see this issue resolved to our client’s benefit.”
