Bitcoin enthusiast Samson Mow believes that Ethereum should be hard-forked after North Korean hackers successfully exploited Bybit to steal $1.4 billion worth of ETH and StETH.
Samson Mow, a Bitcoin (BTC), maximalist, has posted a thread in the social media network X, urging the platform with the largest volume of smart contracts to rollback its blockchain and return the stolen ETH to Bybit, as well as to prevent the North Korean Government from using the looted ETH as weapons.
What I want is not important. What I am most concerned about is what’s best for Ethereum as a whole. It is not acceptable to allow ETH funds the North Korean nucleus program .”
Rollbacks are performed to reverse confirmed transactions to bring the blockchain back to an earlier version. They usually occur after a significant security breach. A rollback in the case of ETH will result in a hard-fork, similar to the one that occurred during the 2016 Ethereum DAO hack where thieves stole 3.6 millions Ether.
Mow jokes that the roll-backed chain will keep its ticker ETH, while the existing one can be renamed “ETHNK,” stating that investors may want to refrain from trading ETH.
As Vitalik Buterin, myself and others discuss how to best rollback the Ethereum chain it is best that everyone stop trading the ETH. Since the rolled back chain will use the ticker ETH it is prudent to rename current chain to ETHNK. I think Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un would continue to operate validators.
“So, we’ll have: ETC (Ethereum classic), ETHNK and ETH.
Ethereum currently trades for $2,770, an increase of 4% over the past day.
