Ripple contributed $1,000,000 to the Commonwealth Unity Fund. This is a super-PAC that was established by James Murphy, an attorney. The PAC aims at supporting John Deaton, a leading advocate of cryptocurrency, as he seeks to unseat Massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren who is known for having an anti-crypto stance.
Ripple’s contribution adds to the growing campaign
Ripple’s massive donation was made in May, according to an official document.
Eleanor Terret, a Fox Business reporter who reported on Tuesday, noted that Murphy aka MetaLawMan received $50,000 for the Commonwealth Unity Fund.
The Federal Election Commission receives the details of all donations.
This election is too important for me and my entire family to sit on the sidelines. Murphy commented about the donation on X, saying that we desperately need a unifier like John E. Deaton to be in the Senate.
Ripple’s latest major donation comes as the US presidential election campaigns heat up.
In May of this year, the company announced a donation of $25 million to Fairshale. The SEC sued the company in December 2020 for XRP.
Fairshake, a super PAC, aims to help crypto-friendly politicians and legislators. It is hoped that these individuals will be elected to office in order to advocate for clarity on regulatory issues and to support blockchain innovations.
Super PAC received contributions from Coinbase, a cryptocurrency exchange and a16z crypto, a venture fund focused on crypto by VC giant Andreessen-Horowitz.
Cameron Winklevoss and Tyler Winklevoss are the billionaire founders of Gemini cryptocurrency exchange. They donated $4.9m to Fairshake’s super PAC back in February.
Donations of crypto currency to Trump
The Winklevoss Twins and other prominent members of the crypto-community have donated to President Donald Trump’s campaign.
They each contributed $50,000 to America PAC in June. This super PAC supports Trump. They also donated $1,000,000 in Bitcoins to Trump’s campaign for reelection.
The President has become a leading advocate of cryptocurrencies. He is due to give a speech at the Bitcoin2024 conference in late August.
Markets reacted positively when they heard that he survived an attempted assassination on 13 July, and also after a crypto-friendly Ohio legislator named J.D. Vance is his vice-presidential candidate. Vance disclosed that he will be holding Bitcoin worth between $100,000 and $250,000 in 2022.
