The protocol is designed to unify Layer 1 Blockchains such as Ethereum and Solana.
Marc Boiron, CEO of Polygon Labs, has announced the AggLayer Protocol. It aims to unify Web3 ecosystem. The protocol will integrate major Layer1 networks like Ethereum and Solana into Polygon 2.0 to promote infinite scalability.
AggLayer: a bridge for Web3
AggLayer is a core part of Polygon 2.0, which addresses the scalability and integration challenges in blockchain technology. It connects Layer 1 networks like Ethereum and Solana to create Web3 ecosystems.
Boiron described AggLayer, a protocol that transforms individual ecosystems to integrate the entire Web3 environment. He said:
“AggLayer represents Polygon’s commitment to solving the most pressing issues in blockchain technology–scalability and interoperability. It will allow developers and users to interact across multiple networks, without the limitations that we currently have.”
This initiative marks a major shift in the dynamics and interconnection of blockchain ecosystems. AggLayer, unlike other solutions, focuses on providing an infrastructure for the entire Web3 eco-system, rather than serving isolated Blockchains.
Polygon 2.0 offers infinite scalability and interoperability
AggLayer is a core Polygon 2.0 component that aims to achieve “infinite scalability,” a concept Boiron believes is vital for the future growth of blockchain. This results in a significant reduction of friction for cross-chain transactions, making decentralized apps (dApps), more accessible and efficient.
AggLayer was launched after Polygon upgraded its MATIC token on a 1:1 ratio to the new Polygon Ecosystem token (POL), which now serves as the network’s native token for gas and staking as of September 4. According to Boiron, the upgrade is meant to empower the community and allow them to participate in the growth of the network.
Polygon’s Ambitious vision
Polygon’s approach is a major player within the rapidly expanding Web3 market. The blockchain industry is grappling with issues of scalability that limit the speed of transactions and network interoperability.
The AggLayer will undoubtedly influence the trajectory of Polygon 2.0’s vision of infinite scaleability and interoperability. This could lead to a broader adoption of the decentralized technologies.
