A North Korean hacker who used a false identity in order to apply for an open position at one of the top crypto exchange platforms around the globe was caught by the platform.
According to a CBS News report, Nick Percoco – is the Chief Security Officer at Kraken –. He claims that a North Korean individual posing under the name “Steven Smith”, tried to obtain a job in IT at the crypto-exchange as a way of stealing information and money.
This person is believed to be working for Kim Jong Un in North Korea. Percoco, however, says that he did not dismiss the application of this man immediately. Instead, he said a confrontation was his intention.
We like to stare the attackers in the eye. Others might also call it trolling. Security research is what we call it.
“Their job is to create employment, to steal companies’ intellectual property and money… They do this in an organized way.
The man, who claimed to come from Houston, was asked for his ID card during an interview. He waited a couple of minutes before presenting a screen shot from a driver’s license that said “Stephen Smith”, with an address in Houston.
A recent Fortune report claimed that Smith had a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from New York University and over 10 years of experience as a Software Engineer at US companies such as Cisco.
According to the United Nations, North Korea earns between $250 and 600 million dollars annually through deceiving companies into employing its spys.
