US regulators say a former JPMorgan Chase worker admitted to taking thousands of dollars out of customers’ bank accounts and ATMs.
Roberto Garcia is a former Chase Personal Banker who stole $12,948 while working as an ATM guard in Miami, Florida.
After performing a September 2019 audit, Chase found that Garcia had been assigned to fill up the cash at ATMs Garcia was supposed to be loading cash into.
The OCC claims that Garcia admitted to the theft of $12,732 in an interview with JPMorgan Chase’s investigators.
Garcia is also accused by the OCC of taking over accounts while employed at JPMorgan Chase.
Respondent enrolled six out of eight customers’ cards into his digital Apple Pay Wallet.
The OCC claims that Garcia attempted to make fraudulent purchases worth more than $7,000 after enrolling the credit and debit cards of JPMorgan Chase customers into his Apple Pay Wallet. About $2,473 out of the total fraudulent transactions was processed.
The OCC claims that Garcia verbally acknowledged what he had done, but now it wants him to submit a formal written response.
