JPMorgan Chase has been in the news after refusing to let a couple access their money for almost two years.
NBC 5 Chicago reports that Maria Mercedes Diaz Ortiz, Jose Maximiliano’s wife, deposited a check for $102,914 into her bank account.
Maximiliano received a six-figure compensation check after an injury at work.
Jose was permanently in Mexico so, he signed the check personally there before letting his wife deposit it.
JPMorgan Chase blocked Ortiz’s account, which had $3,115, after the deposit.
Ortiz presented her marriage certificate and ID several times to JPMorgan Chase in an attempt to prove her case. However, money was frozen for almost two years. Maximiliano’s family then turned to NBC 5 Chicago.
NBC 5 Chicago contacted JPMorgan Chase to inquire about this matter. The lender promptly returned a sum of $106,029.
A statement was then issued by the bank about what had happened.
After additional information and review by the customer was provided, the account was restricted to help prevent fraud. We released the money and apologized for the delays in the process.
