Harpie, a project that aims to protect crypto users against various forms of theft by creating an on-chain firewall, has announced that it will cease operations and no longer offer its security services. The team, which was tasked with preventing threats such as phishing scams and exploits of smart contracts, acknowledged that it had difficulty finding a business model that would support its long-term objectives.

Why did Harpie shut down despite funding?
According to Harpie’s official announcement, the project developed valuable security tools but ultimately failed to achieve financial viability required for continued operation.
This result occurred despite Harpie having secured $4.5 million as part of a September 2022 Seed Funding Round led by Dragonfly Capital, a prominent venture capital firm. The project was unable to generate enough revenue or growth in users to sustain its services.

What happens to user assets and rewards?
The company announced that it will soon launch a tool for users who have assets managed or vaulted through the Harpie platform. This tool will allow transfers to external wallets. Harpie’s RPC-endpoint is now recommended to anyone experiencing failed transactions.
Harpie assured its users that it would provide all the necessary tools and instructions for vaulted assets to be moved in the next few days.
The company has confirmed that the commitments made to Harpie Season 1 and the referral program giveaways are still valid. Users are encouraged monitor the official Harpie Discord for updates and instructions regarding asset distribution and reward distribution.
Harpie Hopes Inspire Future Security Efforts
The Harpie team thanked its users for their support, despite the project’s closure. The team hoped that the work of the project would inspire other companies to develop robust solutions for a more secure crypto environment.
Although Harpie’s business model failed, its efforts to combat digital wallet theft and fraud may have influenced future security innovations in the crypto space.
