After a cyber-attack that affected thousands of its customers, a billion dollar bank has issued stern warnings to customers.
Western Alliance Bank, in an application to the Office of the Maine attorney general, claims that an unauthorised actor has exploited the vulnerability of a file-transfer software used by a third party.
According to the report, this breach affected 21,899 clients. It was first discovered late in January, but it actually occurred in October.
Western Alliance discovered that an unauthorised actor may have accessed Western Alliance data as early as January 27th, 2025. Our investigation revealed that an unauthorized person had accessed certain files on the system between October 12, 2024 and October 24, 2024.
We discovered on February 21, 2025 that some personal information was contained in the files, such as your name and Social Security Number. If you gave Western Alliance .” your passport number or driver’s licence number (or other identification numbers), we may also have found it in the files.
The bank has notified law enforcement of the breach. It is also offering a complimentary 12-month membership in an identity theft protection service.
According to the Federal Reserve, Western Alliance Bank has assets totaling approximately 81 billion dollars.
