Ledger, a crypto-hardware wallet company, warns its customers that scammers have launched a new scheme to target its users.
The Paris-based firm confirmed in a social media post that scammers are using physical letters to inform users of the need for wallet verification.
In the scam email, recipients are directed to a website where they can enter their recovery phrase. This ensures that all communication is done through a safe channel.
Jacob Canfield shares a letter with crypto traders.
We are calling you to inform you of a security update which requires immediate action. In order to maintain the highest level of security, we require all users to verify their wallets by using their recovery phrase. This will ensure that they can continue to access their Ledger device .”
Ledger claims that the letter was a fraud. The company has also warned customers about phone calls from impersonators pretending to be wallet owners.
Scammers who impersonate Ledger or Ledger representatives unfortunately are common. We actively block and report scammers but we cannot control what real accounts or bots choose to write in emails, phone conversations, bios, or usernames.
It is claimed that the company will not ask for its customer’s 24-word phrase. If anyone does so, then it is scam.
Please do not engage with anyone claiming to work for Ledger or offering to recover money. Contact our Support Team directly for support and assistance .”
