The French authorities say that a database with sensitive data on 1,2 million accounts was breached.
According to the Ministry of Economy, an unauthorised entity accessed last month’s national FICOBA bank account database.
“On detection of the incident, immediate restrictions on access were put in place to limit the data that was accessed from the database… The work is currently underway to restore the service to the highest level of security.”
Intruders impersonated civil servants and accessed data including account holders’ identities, addresses, tax identifiers and banking coordinates such as RIB or IBAN.
Banks have been asked by the government to warn their clients about this situation.
Numerous scams circulate via SMS or email, with the aim of obtaining information from or payment from their users. Frauds are now affecting all groups, including individuals and business. It is better not to respond directly if you are in doubt.
