  • Binance has received a letter from the Hong Kong Police expressing its appreciation for its role in identifying potential suspects in an alleged kidnapping.

  • Carlos Mak from Binance’s investigative team was praised for providing critical intelligence that helped solve the crime.

  • Binance continues its collaboration with law-enforcement agencies, including by organizing training sessions on cybercrime and digital financial security.

The Organized Crime and Triad Bureau of the Hong Kong Police Force has recognized Binance for its assistance in solving a recent kidnapping. Binance, as digital financial platforms continue to grow, is becoming an important partner in the fight against online crime.

In a blog post on their official website, the HKPF expressed its appreciation for Binance’s intelligence analysis. This played a crucial role in identifying suspects linked to a criminal gang involved in the kidnapping.

Carlos Mak, an investigator from Binance, was specifically thanked in the letter for his work, which was crucial to the success of the investigation. The OCTB expressed its gratitude for Binance’s support and highlighted the importance of teamwork among private companies and law-enforcement agencies to combat crime, particularly those who use new technologies.

The HKPF stressed that everyone must work together to combat the challenges of digital crimes. They commended the crypto-exchange for its proactive approach in tackling these challenges and recognizing its commitment towards improving the security of blockchain ecosystem.

Binance responded to the letter by reiterating the importance of user security, and the protection of blockchain ecosystem as a whole. The firm said that it is committed to creating a more secure and safer digital financial environment for all. The crypto exchange emphasized cooperation with law enforcement including proactive steps such as running law enforcement training courses. These sessions provide officers with the knowledge and skills needed to combat cyber crime effectively.

Binance had been invited by the OCTB in the past to conduct a session of training at the Hong Kong Police headquarters. The Hong Kong Police Forces Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau ran a five-day training session starting on January 30, 2018.

Participants included representatives from the HKPF and the Independent Commission Against Corruption. The training was designed to improve the officers’ knowledge of digital assets and their ability to fight and prevent crimes.

Binance’s role in global cybersecurity is growing, as evidenced by the Hong Kong Police’s recognition.
